Ridge cap linear feet per bundle chart
A bundle of hip-and-ridge cap is sold by the piece, but installed by the linear foot — so its coverage is LF = pieces_per_bundle × exposure_in / 12. Both numbers are printed on your bundle wrapper, which is why the same product line can cover anything from the low twenties to the mid thirties. Read your two numbers off the label and find them below, then size the order with the ridge cap calculator.
| Pieces / bundle | 5" exposure | 5.625" exposure | 6" exposure | 7" exposure | 8" exposure |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 40 | 16.7 LF | 18.8 LF | 20.0 LF | 23.3 LF | 26.7 LF |
| 45 | 18.8 LF | 21.1 LF | 22.5 LF | 26.3 LF | 30.0 LF |
| 50 | 20.8 LF | 23.4 LF | 25.0 LF | 29.2 LF | 33.3 LF |
| 55 | 22.9 LF | 25.8 LF | 27.5 LF | 32.1 LF | 36.7 LF |
| 60 | 25.0 LF | 28.1 LF | 30.0 LF | 35.0 LF | 40.0 LF |
| 65 | 27.1 LF | 30.5 LF | 32.5 LF | 37.9 LF | 43.3 LF |
Coverage = pieces per bundle × exposure ÷ 12. Dedicated hip-and-ridge cap usually lands around 25–33 LF per bundle, which is the band these combinations fall in. Pieces per bundle and exposure vary by product — read both off the label, exactly as panels per carton do for siding.
Cutting cap from three-tab field shingles instead? The same formula applies: count the caps you get per shingle and multiply by the exposure you lay them at.
